Day 12 - Beyond Haiku - Japanese Poetic forms

Form: Tanka
Sam’s
We sit on a wall:
Swallows swoop across the lake
We gaze and chat
A cat claws the window pane,
The world is busy: we pause

Form: Katauta
Hell’s Bells
Friday night vodka
Next day brings the postman’s shock
Sunday shakes but dance awakes.

Form: Bussokusekika
Wet Sunday
When rain falls in June
Cleans our view of distant hills.
Baked earth cracked wide open
Sighs to feel rain’s cool embrace.
Life refreshed blooms and feeds young
We find no joy. Whither sun?

Form: Sedōka
Lisa’s
Dancing at weeks end
In Lisa’s loved Pennine Den.
Like minds: like music.
In pairs we move in slow time,
Shared intent flowers in hands;
Delight in blue’s deep repose.
